~Basic Popovers~

Basic Popovers

We are are one more week down in the semester, thank goodness, and one more week closer to spring break… thank you lordie! I hope everyone out there is doing okay with the weather and all. Winter is the time I love in Arizona but I do worry about everyone else with such bad weather going around. Please stay safe everyone!! Okay off of the subject of weather I want to say thanks to everyone who wished me well this last week, It was greatly appreciated, I am feeling better. Still a lot of coughing but at least I am not sucking cough drops like they are PEZ candies anymore, geeze I was about to barf if I had to down another one, and my sides have quit hurting so I am doing better.

I am going to make this a quick post this week due to the fact that I have a big test in Physics this week and of course I am not ready for it at all. I have barely had any time to study for it, been to busy being sick, so I have to get back to the books and Quizlet flash cards. Hey if anyone out there is a wiz at Ultrasound Physics please let me know, I need all the help I can get!! But before I go I want to leave you with a recipe for Basic Popovers that I just learned to make. Can you believe that I have reached the age of… well that is for me to know and you never to find out… and I have never had a popover? Well I never have and I have always wondered what was so wonderful about them that everyone loved them so much. So to kill my curiosity I decided to bake up a basic recipe and see what all the fuss was about. Well as you can see by the pictures they turned out great! I loved the way they tasted, kind of eggie, and the texture was light and airy and I can see a future of savory recipes and some sweet ones too in my future because these popovers are quick and easy to make, just what I like!!

Basic Popovers

An easy peasy light and airy eggie dinner roll that everyone will love!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. Butter, melted
  • 3/4 C. A-P Flour
  • 3/4 C. Whole milk, room temperature
  • 2 Eggs, room temperature
  • 2-4 Tbsp. Butter, room temperature

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F, 400°F if using a convection oven.
  2. Generously coat the inside of your popover pan with the room temperature butter.
  3. Place the pan in the oven to heat 5 minutes before you are ready to add the batter.
  4. Now in a medium mixing bowl, or a 8 cup Pyrex measuring cup, add in the melted butter, flour, milk and eggs and whisk until the batter is smooth. The batter should be thin like crepe batter.
  5. Remove the hot popover pan from the oven and fill the pan cups halfway full and return the pan back to the oven.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes if you are using a standard popover pan or 20 minutes if you are using a mini popover pan.
  7. DO NOT open the oven door while the popovers are baking.
  8. Remove the popovers from the oven, with a sharp knife slit a small thin hole into each popover to let the excess steam out and serve right away so they don't get soggy.
  9. Popovers really don't store well so I suggest you gobble them all up in one serving.
